1. Brain drain, 2019, cloth, yoghurt, cracked clay dish, water pump.
New work now on display @galerievangelder for the group show Slaap Lekker.

The yoghurt is filtered through the cloth then pumped back to the top. This way, it never makes curd (in dutch: hangop). Brain drain is the term used to refer to people who get trained abroad and don't come back to join the workforce.
I ask myself how does knowledge leak through cracks, and if someone really becomes cheese or curd over time, or it's just one same yoghurt cycle.

2. New tab, 2019. Glazed terracotta.

Growing up in Casablanca made Salim Bayri (b. 1992) aware of the blessings of being exposed to a pool of cultural diversity. In this conversation with Living Content, Salim explains how his artistic practice was shaped by the people he grew up with, and by his accumulation of cultural landscapes and languages. He also talks about how humor and interdisciplinarity inform his practice, and how they help him deal with the bureaucracy of moving from place to place. Salim currently lives and works in Amsterdam.

Red knock, wearable, 2018.
Thinking about guest and host scenarios, the four pieces are interchangeable.
1. A guest with no money goes to a host with money.
2. A host who wants money receives a guest with a big suitcase.
3. A host who wants to leave receives a guest who wants to stay
4. A guest who needs a place goes to a host who wants to leave.
5. Airbnb
6. Couchsurfing
7. Family
8. Friends

Who's happy at the end?
